Re-Pointing

Re-Pointing

Flexible pointing is applied over the top of fresh mortar that bed the ridge caps to the roof tiles. The flexible material seals the exposed mortar and, dries into a flexible compound that is far less prone to cracking with any movement of the roof frame and house. Flexible pointing complies to Australian Standards for securing ridge capping. You no longer need screws or brackets and clips to secure ridge caps during storms

Re-pointing is an important maintenance task that ensures your roof remains water tight. It is important to re-point as soon as any cracks or deterioration is seen on the ridge cap. Newly done re-pointing can protect a home for up to 25 years.

The Fixon Roofing Re-pointing process

Inspection:
This involves a thorough inspection of the roof ridge to identify damaged or cracked tiles or loose mortar that may cause water to leak into the roof cavity.

Re-Pointing:
We prepare for re-pointing by grinding back the ridge cap edges and removing any mortar that is loose. All remaining dust, particles and dirt are blown off to provide a clean surface which will maximise adhesion of the new flexible pointing. The colour matched flexible pointing is neatly applied using a trowel covering all edges of the ridge caps including overlapping collars and any barge caps.

Finishes Touches:
When the flexible pointing is partially dried, we clear through the new weep holes. We also check the continuity of the fresh pointing for a seemless, neat and watertight finish.
